Mancow’s TV for Radio?

Mancow Mornings 1530 WCKGMancow came into Chicago in the early 1990s.  He lit up the radio scene.  Radio success in Chicago followed.  Chicago loves Chicago Radio Stars.  Chicago success led to syndication.

Mancow was on top of the world.  Then Q101 dropped Mancow’s show in Chicago.

Chicago’s radio star, was no longer on Chicago radio, even though he was broadcasting a radio show daily, mornings, from Chicago.  Then came WLS-AM and a new radio show.  Mancow worked double duty and did two shows daily.

Then WLS-AM dropped Mancow.

Until AM 1530 WCKG picked up Mancow’s radio show for Mornings AND Afternoons in Suburban Chicago, Mancow was UNHEARD in Chicagoland radio.

Today, Mancow’s radio show is broadcast on TV on Chicago’s low rated UHF Channel 50.

What’s developed is a clear change in Muller’s radio show.  Phrases like “see” and “look” take on a whole new meaning as Muller refers to things  only a handful of those viewing on TV can actually see.  The rest of those tuning in on AM 1530 and other stations across the country are left “in the dark” during these visual references.

Other radio shows have been adapted for TV.  WCKG’s own Dan Patrick Show is also simulcast on NBC’s Sports Network and Dish Network.  Howard Stern’s radio show used to be broadcast on TV as well.  Two keys to the success of both shows were the fact they were radio shows first, and TV shows second…and the way they were broadcast on TV fit with the audience they served.  The jury is still out as to whether Mancow’s target audience is at home, in front of a TV from 6am-8am Mornings.

Mancow’s own website boasts his TV Show Channel, but makes no mention of his Chicago radio flagship…the station which airs him in morning and afternoon drive…. 1530 WCKG.

Have you noticed a difference in Mancow’s radio show?  Do you enjoy the show?

NFL Teams Want To Know If Manti Te’o Is Gay

Source: CBS Local

Apparently NFL teams aren’t buying Manti Te’o’s declaration that he’s not gay.

After the fake girlfriend hoax exploded in January, Katie Couric asked Te’o if he was gay and the former Notre Dame linebacker nervously responded: ”No, far from it, far from it.”

But according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio,NFL teams are still wondering if Te’o is indeed gay and they want to know the answer.

“Here’s the elephant in the room for the teams and it shouldn’t matter but we have to step aside from the rest of reality and walk into the unique industry that is the NFL,” Florio said on The Dan Patrick Show Monday.

Listen to the Dan Patrick show everyday on AM 1530 WCKG from 8am-11am and read the rest of the story here.

Should I Stay Or Should I Go? WCKG Explores New Suburban Studios

By ALLISON HORNE – msleditorial@shawmedia.com

WCKG Rocking The Suburbs

Dedicated to covering DuPage County, AM 1530 shakes up local radio with its new WCKG call letters and program hosts Michael Koolidge (from left), Shaun Thompson and Johnny Von, joined by station mascot Bananas, newly added host Geoff Pinkus and General Manager Matt Dubiel. (Erica Benson — ebenson@shawmedia.com) PHOTO from MySuburbanLife.com

Don’t touch that dial, folks, because there’s a new show in town.

It may have been around since 1974, but the station formerly known as WJJG now is getting a facelift, starting with some famous call letters: WCKG. When General Manager Matt Dubiel took over the Elmhurst station in October 2011, he set out to develop a fresh direction. With more than 2.8 million people within the WCKG AM 1530 signal, and 30,000 online listeners per month, Dubiel realized the station had a niche it needed to focus on — the suburbs….

With WCKG one of the few stations based inside DuPage County, Dubiel sees its advantages: location, listeners and a need for something local and relevant. Dubiel is still fine-tuning the big changes. From a possible new location to brand new shows, he says WCKG aims to cater to area businesses and suburban listeners.

Suburbanlife WCKG Radio SuburbsWhat’s new for WCKG?
Changing the call letters shined up the station, but there are a couple of things that are key for us. We got all new equipment that improves the quality of the station, and we put it at full power. We weren’t operating at full power before. Our website is in tip-top shape too, so our online presence is there. Mancow Muller is a Chicago radio show in the morning that’s syndicated, but it’s local. He’s someone people know. He lets us get our feet off the ground. We’re trying to add more local shows, like ‘The Geoff Pinkus Show.’ He’s live and local from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (weekdays). The next phase of programming lineup changes is to add another show.

What are you trying to do and what’s next?
We’re working on finding a home for the studios in a main street, high traffic, suburban area so people can see, hear and experience the magic of radio in a community way. It would be right in the heart of the action. We’re looking at a handful of suburbs including downtown Elmhurst, Naperville and Rosemont. I’ve considered that we need to be in a place that fits for the people and the businesses around us. Towns that have a nice downtown area like Downers Grove, Hinsdale and Elmhurst would be great. I imagine regular folks walking by, sitting in on radio shows, and creating a great opportunity for the community.

Empowered Grandma Makes 6 figures blogging

empower network event coming to chicagoWe just witnessed a granny accept a check for over $100,000 from blogging.  Looks like those who say you can’t make any real money on the internet are wrong.  Instead of wasting time, wasting time on Facebook…this grandmother took matters into her own hands and learned the strategies and tactics for making pretty significant money online.

Some folks are hoping to win the lottery, while this grandmother and 4,000 other members of her online blogging network know as the Empower Network are just getting busy.

The Empower Network has taken a lot of heat over it’s meteoric 12 month catapult to internet success for various reasons.  The biggest reason it’s fallen under criticism is most folks simply think making money online is a pipe dream.

In the interest of full disclosure, WCKG will now promote and support members of the Empower Network in Chicago and worldwide under the TEAM WCKG umbrella.  If you’d like to learn how to join TEAM WCKG, escape the rat race, leap into the information age, and market your way to a new income level and higher tax bracket watch the video here:  TEAM WCKG VIDEO

Alex Jones vs. Piers Morgan on CNN

Some say Alex Jones “lost it” on CNN.  The WCKG talk radio host was invited to CNN’s New York studios to be on the low rated Piers Morgan show.  Alex made news online via Matt Drudge’s DrudgeReport.com on his way  to NYC when the TSA gave Jones a little hassle at the Austin airport.  CNN asked Jones to be on because Alex Jones started a petition to have Piers Morgan deported for calling for a ban on guns, or gun control.

The drama didn’t stop there.  Alex unleashed the furry on Piers Morgan for nearly two solid segments.  It’s a miracle he made it to the end of the first segment.  Alex Jones followed up his CNN appearance with a much more reserved and mellow video from his hotel room.  Alex expresses fear for his life based on his spirited performance on CNN.

Following Alex Jones, Piers had Alan Dershowitz on who suggested Alex Jones was an example of why guns need to be controlled.  Alex Jones is a known 9/11 truth movement believer and this is another issue Piers mentioned to discredit Jones and present him as “unhinged”.  Alex clearly was fired up….do YOU think he “showed them” or do you think he helped prove Piers’ point?

Pinker Preps for Apocalypse, Joins WCKG in Chicago

The Mayan Calendar predicts we’ll never hear it, but Chicago radio personality Geoff “The Pinker” Pinkus announces “The Geoff Pinkus Show” is moving to WCKG (AM 1530) on January 7th, 2013.

The Geoff Pinkus Show becomes the first daily, live and local talk show on WCKG as the radio station continues to focus on serving the community as the “Voice of DuPage County”. While corporate stations make budget cuts and add more syndicated slop to fill time, the hiring of Pinkus proves WCKG is making moves to serve the gaping hole in the market. Local is back.

The Geoff Pinkus show will air middays on AM 1530 WCKG Monday through Friday from 11AM – 1PM. Pinkus has a powerful daily lead in of super talkers including Chicago’s own Mancow Muller (6a-8a) and the godfather of sports talk, Dan Patrick (8a-11a).

Pinkus (never at a loss for words) believes this is the opportunity of a lifetime, “For years I was told I’d get a daily show ‘when hell freezes over!’ The Twinkie is gone. The Mayan calendar is ending….and now WCKG finally decides to hire me? Coincidence? Maybe. All I know is I’ve got some storable food, water stockpiles, good cigars, and a microphone ready. Starting January 7th at 11am, we’re rockin’ the suburbs. We’re going to have fun on the radio again with real people.”

Pinkus is well-known for his humorous and confrontational style. Straightforward and direct, he’s the same man who in March of 2009 interviewed Drew Peterson and blatantly stated on-air, “I think you murdered your wife.”

This move puts Pinkus on the air with Mancow Muller, Dan Patrick, and Alex Jones weekdays on WCKG. WCKG Station Manager Matt Dubiel admits it’s an eclectic mix, “We’re filling a hole. This is Money Ball for radio at WCKG. We pick up the best talent that’s available. It’s all designed to bring listeners programming they can’t get anywhere else, and in turn provide main street businesses with an affordable and effective advertising outlet in the suburbs. WCKG makes the phone ring.”
