Hoffman Estates man robbed several area banks, FBI says

A Hoffman Estates man was charged Friday with robbing a Park Ridge bank and is suspected in the robberies of five other banks in Chicago and the northwest suburbs.

Kenneth White, 34 was arrested Thursday in Schaumburg without incident and appeared in court Friday on a felony bank robbery charge for the Nov. 9 robbery of a Harris Bank branch in Park Ridge, according to the FBI.

Streamwood woman killed in Hoffman Estates crash

An 85-year-old Streamwood woman was killed early Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates, authorities said.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash just south of Higgins Road at 4:13 a.m., said Hoffman Estates police Sgt. Darin Felgenhauer. The woman was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 5:13 a.m.

Hazing results in 3-game forfeit for Hoffman Estates High School

The Hoffman Estates High School boys varsity basketball team is forfeiting three games as a result of an internal investigation by school district officials into hazing allegations.

The forfeits include Friday’s canceled game against Schaumburg as well as Saturday’s game against Hersey and Tuesday’s game against Streamwood, according to Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 spokesman Tom Petersen.

Cause of Streamwood woman’s death waits for tests

Foul play is not suspected in the death of a 20-year-old Streamwood woman who had been missing 10 days before her body was discovered Thursday, according to Streamwood police.

Determination of Rachel Morris’ cause of death is awaiting the result of toxicology tests which could take weeks, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Sears, AT&T, Motorola Solutions, ComEd and other companies from the suburbs are sending emergency help and supplies as a massive storm threatens to cripple East Coast homes, businesses and communication networks.

Officials and business executives have been watching the development of Hurricane Sandy since Wednesday as it has barreled northward from the Caribbean to the Eastern Seaboard. And they’ve put into action emergency plans to ship extra products, equipment and workers to various sites along the storm’s treacherous path.
