Pit bull owners can get vouchers for the free surgery, which is expected to reduce overpopulation of the breed as well as the number of pit bulls that end up in shelters, according to the Humane Society.
Elmhurst Animal Care Center
is participating in a program launched by the Hinsdale Humane Society to help reduce the number of pit bulls that end up in animal shelters.
Throughout February, which is Spay and Neuter Month, the Humane Society will focus on the plight of pit bulls.
“We want to assist responsible pet owners in our community,” said Jennifer Vlazny, HHS operations manager. “Spaying and neutering are paramount to helping resolve the pit bull overpopulation crisis and reducing the number of pit bulls we see in animal shelters in the future.”
